Week ending May 14

VARSITY.   This week’s Player of the Week is Mike Laning.  Mike Had a good week at the plate.  However, it was his defense that set him apart from all others.  Mike and Myles turned five double plays on the week.  Mike continues to impress with his determination to become a better player everyday.   It is this mind set that has helped Mike develop as the season has gone on.  Keep up the good work Mike!

SOPHOMORE.   This week’s sophomore playing of the week is Daniel Simoneit.  Dan had several great at bats throughout the week.  During the first 4 innings on Saturday, Dan had recorded our only two hits.  He has earned himself a starting job as a corner outfielder.  He always has a positive attitude, and is always putting in the extra effort to become a better ball player.  Congrats Dan!

FRESHMAN A.   Drew Vogg is the frosh a player of the week.  Drew helped lead the hitting attack against York in a16-13 thriller while hitting a two run blast against St Francis Friday.  Drew also went 5 innings on the mound against a strong Willowbrook team.

FRESHMAN B.   Jordan Francik is the Freshmen B player of the week.  Jordan has played an excellent defensive second base all season long.  He always seems to find a way to make any play that’s hit near him.  Jordan has a great baseball knowledge and is one of the top leaders on the field. Jordan also had a solid week at the plate getting hitting 5 singles and 3 steals.  Jordan will definitely continue his fantastic play as the Freshmen B wrap up their season this week. VARSITY.   The Varsity Player of the Week is Myles Purdom.  After a tough start to the year missing almost a week and a half of the season due to illness, Myles has come on strong of late.  He had his best week of the year at the plate going 5 for 11.  Not to mention playing extremely good defense as well.  Congratulations Myles!

SOPHOMORE.   Mitch Monocchio has earned the sophomore player of the week.  He had an excellent two games against York hitting 2 doubles, 2 singles, and lined out hard a couple of times.  One of those doubles scored 2 runs to help West gain the lead over the Dukes.  Before that at bat I was talking with Mitch during a pitching change.  He told me he was going to jump on the first pitch fastball.  Sure enough he saw a first pitch fastball and crushed it in the right centerfield gap.  Mitch has been the anchor in our lineup this year. Congrats on earning the player of the week and moving up to play Varsity baseball!!!

FRESHMAN A.   Griffin Brugh is the Freshmen Player of the Week.  Griffin pitched a no hitter against Proviso West in Monday's action.  Griffin walked the first batter and then retired the next 15 batters in order on the way to an 11-0 victory.  Griffin also participated in a no hitter against Proviso West the prior week by going two innings.

FRESHMAN B.   Michael Bianchini is the Freshman B player of the week this week.  Michael had a great week both offensively and defensively.  In the first game of a double header Michael went 5 innings throwing 93 pitches against a tough Montini team.  The second game Michael went 3 for 3 with 2 singles and a double. Michael is a great player to have, always working to get better, and always a class act.  Congratulations to Michael for his great week!

VARSITY.  This weeks Player of the Week goes to Tommy Alt.  Tommy was in serious consideration last week for Player of the Week.  His good play continued this week.  Tommy had seven hits  during the week,  including two home runs against Proviso West.  Keep up the hard word Tommy...it is paying off!

SOPHOMORE.   This week’s sophomore player of the week goes to Sam Gibson.  He had an excellent two games this weekend against Hinsdale Central.  In 8 total at bats he was able to reach base safely 5 times.  In the first game he led off with a ten pitch at bat which resulted in a walk.  He then used his speed to steal second base, and later cross the plate for a run.  In addition to his plate appearances he patrolled centerfield and made some great running catches.  Sam is another unspoken leader on this team.  Congrats Sam!

FRESHMAN A.   Congrats to Spencer Refer for earning the Frosh a player of the week.  Spencer was 5 for 7 with 2 doubles, one triple and a homer.  He also played outstanding defense at 3rd.

FRESHMAN B.  Grant Karolich is the Freshmen B player of the week.  Grant had a great week at the plate going 5 for 8 through 2 games. Grant has also played an excellent defensive right field and seems to make a ‘web gem’ type play at least every game.  Grant has excellent baseball knowledge, is a very coachable player, and has improved strides since the beginning of the season. Grant will definitely continue his great play as the Freshman B take on Lockport on Monday. Congratulations Grant for a great week!

VARSITY.  This week’s Player of the Week is Tyler Curtis.  Tyler had five hits on the week including a double and a triple against Oak Park on Saturday.  He also was able to get his first appearance in a game on the mound since hurting his arm at the start of the season.  Congratulations Tyler on a great week!

SOPHOMORE.  The sophomore player of the week is Tyler Dayton.  Tyler pitched a complete game against Oak Park River Forest.  Although we fell short of the victory, this was Tyler’s best outing of the season.  He pitched well enough to give us a shot at winning the ball game.  Not only did he pitch well, but he had a few good at bats.  Tyler is one of several athletes on this team that is always trying to find a way to get better.  Congrats Tyler!

FRESHMAN A.  John Duvic is the Frosh a player of the week.  John made 11 assists this week @ ss.  John also had several key hits against OPRF including a bases clearing double.

FRESHMAN B.  The entire Freshman B team are the players of the week this week.  As mother nature was very uncooperative and the rain poured down the freshman b team was unable to get a game in all week.  8 straight days of practice (with only one being outside) in the middle of the season can hurt team moral, but this group used the time to continually get better and work on things they noticed in the first 11 games. Challenging each other and staying positive was very impressive to see.  What could have hurt the team was instead used to make us better, congratulations to the b team for a productive week!

Week ending April 16

VARSITY.  This week’s player of the week goes to Bob Targo.  Bob has been a leader on the bench for the Hilltoppers this season.  While Bob has not had the season start off the way he hoped.  He has continually kept pushing through these times while at the same time picking his teammates up.  Keep up the positive attitude Bobby it goes a long way!!

SOPHOMORE.  The sophomore player of the week is Matt Buckley.  On Tuesday against Morton Matt was placed in a pressure situation.  He came into the game in the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs and the game tied.  Morton had the winning run standing on second base.  Matt got the hitter to fly out to centerfield.  The Hilltoppers then scored a run in the top of the 8th inning to take the lead.  Buckley went back out in the bottom half of the inning recording a strike out and a 1-6-3 double play to end the game.  He earned his first victory of the season.  Matt has been clutch out of the bullpen for us this year. (4 innings, 0.00 era) Not only has he been good on the mound this year, but his positive upbeat attitude during practice and games has been great!  Congrats Buck!

FRESHMAN A.  Congrats to Grant Greeno on this week's Frosh A. Player of the week.  Grant ended the week on fire going 5 for 7 while spraying hits all over the yard.  Grant also picked up a win against Morton on the mound, shutting them down for two innings.

FRESHMAN B.  Luke Peterselli is the freshman b player of the week.  Luke pitched three excellent, scoreless, shutout innings through 3 games and plays a fantastic first base for our team.  He was also great at the plate going 8 for 12 through the whole week and 4 for 4 against Wheaton Warrenville South.  Luke is always in high spirits and continually makes everyone smile.  He is a solid leader both on and off the field and is a great player to have on the team. Congratulations to Luke for a great week!

Week ending April 9

VARSITY.  The varsity Player of the week is Ben Krusen.  Ben had a tremendous week giving up one earned run against Leyden on the mound.  He followed that up by just as an impressive week at the plate.  Including a grand slam against Morton.  Congratulations to Ben for being the varsity player of the week.

SOPHOMORE.  This week’s sophomore player of the week goes to Zak Hassan.  Zak came through in the clutch this past Saturday in the first game of the doubleheader against Morton.  The Hilltoppers found themselves trailing by 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh.  We were down to our last out, trailing by 1 run and runners on first and third.  With two strikes Zak came through with a hit that one hopped the wall, and scored two runs to win the game.  Zak is someone we can count on to play multiple positions for us including catching, pitching, infield, and outfield on occasion.  He has performed well for us this year, always brings a positive attitude, and gives 110% all the time.  He is one of our leaders that will be fun to watch down the stretch.  Congrats to Zak for earning the player of the week!!!!

FRESHMAN A.  Congrats to Hayden Carlson, the week 2 frosh A Player of the week.  Hayden anchored the team defensively and helped give the offense a lift during the week.  Hayden hit two triples and plated 5 runners in this week's action.  He also pitched one scoreless inning.

FRESHMAN B.  Brad Fawcett is the Freshmen B player of the week for week two.  Brad started the week getting two hits and pitching two solid innings of middle relief against Kaneland.  Through the rest of the week Brad earned five more hits, two of them doubles, and pitched two more innings of middle relief.  He was also very aggressive on the base-paths earning 5 stolen bases!  Brad is an exciting player and will continue his great play as the Freshmen B start a 4 game home stand on Monday. Congratulations Brad for a great week!

Week ending April 2

VARSITY.  The first varsity player of the week could of gone to one of several players.  However,  the player chosen as the first player of the week for 2011 is Miles Brugh.  Miles is someone who is always contributing to the team in his own special way.  While his contributions might not been seen by most outside the dugout those within know how important he is to us.  Miles is always willing to help those around him.  Whether at practice, in the dug out,  he always seems to find a way to have a positive influence on those around him.  He is a leader for us in so many ways.  That is why the first player of the week for 2011 goes to Miles Brugh. Congratulations Miles!

SOPHOMORE.  Daniel Mulvihill is the sophomore player of the week, as he earned our first win of the season against Naperville North.  Through 4 and 2/3 innings Daniel only let up 2 base hits!  Not to mention he had 6 strike outs to accompany his 2-hit outing.  We will look to Daniel to have several more big outings like this one throughout the season.  Congrats Daniel on the big W!

FRESHMAN A.  Congratulations to Daniel Rustemeyer as the freshmen A player of the week.  The Hilltoppers were trailing Lyons Township 12-3 when "Rusty" entered the fourth inning and pitched two scoreless frames to slow the Lion attack.  This allowed the Hilltoppers to catch up and surpass the Lions by scoring 18 unanswered runs.  Rusty also pitched in at the plate chipping in with a walk, hit ,and 2 r.b.i.'s.  Congratulations to Daniel and the Hilltoppers for their memorable win.

FRESHMAN B.  Nick Floyd is the Freshman B Player of the Week for the first week of the season.  Through the first three games Nick was amazingly strong at the plate hitting 4 singles, 2 doubles, and a triple.  He also played excellent behind the plate, catching for two of the games.  Nick has been a great leader both on and off the field and will undoubtedly continue his great play as the Freshman B gear up to play 5 more games this week. Congratulations to Nick for a great week!
