Dear Glenbard West Baseball,                                                                  March 7th, 2011

Welcome to another season of Glenbard West Baseball!   It is hard to believe that in a couple short weeks, and hopefully some warmer weather, we will be back on the field.  With that said, your sons have been doing a good job of working to improve their baseball skills.  Our staff has been very pleased with their efforts and is excited about the upcoming season.

We have completed tryouts for the 2011 baseball season.  This year brought our largest number of athletes competing for the program.  Over one hundred athletes tried out for the 2011 Glenbard West baseball program.  We have finished the difficult process of evaluating them and are excited about the upcoming season.  As we begin the season there are a few items to bring to your attention.

March 12th  is an important date to remember.  Our parent meeting will begin promptly at 9:15.  The location of the meeting will be in the school library at 9:15.  This will immediately be followed by the mandatory athletic directors meeting at 10:00 in Biester gym.

Fundraiser:  We have recently begun our 2011 fundraiser.  We are asking each team member to sell 20 cards.  They are a great bargain for the price!  Twenty dollars will get you numerous discounts at local establishments ranging from fast food, dining, auto discounts, and much more.  One can even register online for over one hundred thousand other discount opportunities.  Additionally, each card holder will receive four key detachable key tabs on their card.  If used, these tabs are worth thirty-four dollars in saving alone!  With this fundraiser, we will be looking to purchase several pieces of equipment for our field, new bats, baseballs, uniforms, screens and much more.  Because of it, our athletes are given some of the best equipment money can buy.

This Wednesday, the athletes will have an opportunity to buy their gear.  There is an abundance of gear that can be purchased: belts, socks, t-shirts, pullovers and more.  Athletes will need to have their forms filled out on Wednesday so that gear can be ordered in a timely manner.

Team pictures will be taken on Friday of this week.  All athletes will have been given picture forms to be taken home.  These forms need to be returned on Friday, March 11th.

Many of you might be aware that we say the word “P.R.I.D.E.”  repeatedly as a team and program.  However, many of you might not be aware that this word has a double meaning.  It is also an acronym for how we want our athletes to conduct their lives on and off the field.  The “P” stands for Preparation.  We want all our athletes to think about how they prepare themselves for life.  Whether it is for class, friendships, sport’s or even family.  As a program, we believe developing a lifestyle that helps them grow both on and off the field is extremely important.  With this said were going to be preparing in another way as well.  The program will be taking a trip on Tuesday to a non for profit organization called “Feed My Starving Children”.  This is an organization who asks for volunteers to package food for the needy throughout the world.  It is a great way for us to “prepare” food for those less fortunate.   Freshman and Sophomores will prepare food from 6-7:30 while the varsity will from 8-9:30.

Finally, our first games of the season will soon be upon us.  With your help we are hoping you make it another successful season!  We will be looking for parent volunteers on every level to work in concessions or take care of other needs the team may have throughout the season.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Mrs. Krusen [see 3/7 email for her email address].

Sixteen days and counting!
